Iran’s movie ‘Finding Farideh’ to vie in Bangladesh

Iran’s documentary ‘Finding Farideh’ has been selected to compete at the 18th Dhaka International Film Festival in Bangladesh.

Co-directed by Azadeh Mousavi and Kourosh Ataee, the doc begins with a newspaper report which reads a young woman, adopted by a Dutch family, is looking for her biological parents.

The woman, called Farideh, has lost her family almost 40 years ago in Imam Reza (AS) shrine in Mashhad city of Iran. At that time, she was sent to a Nursery where she was adopted by a Dutch family.

The family moved to the Netherlands and Farideh grew up there. Now, she is in search of her biological parents.

The documentary has received various awards at several festivals, including the Cinema Verite (international documentary film festival) in Iran and Iran Documentary Independent Award.

It was also screened at the 16th Big Sky Film Festival in the US and the 5th Iranian Film Festival of Zurich in Switzerland.

Notably, the doc is one of the submitted titles for the Best Documentary category and the International Feature Film category at the 2020 Academy Awards (Oscars).

Since 1977, the Dhaka fest has been promoting a healthy culture in the film industry in Bangladesh with the main theme of “Better Film, Better Audience, Better Society.”

This 18th edition of the event is slated for January 11-19, 2020.
